Yesterday the building inspector came by unexpectedly. It seems that he was in the area to inspect a new roof at one of our five neighbors' houses. He must have heard the work or seen our building across the way and stopped in. He arrived in something of a huff, but Elisa calmed him down enough that he did not issue a “stop work” order. In our defense, I had called and left a message at the inspector’s office on the previous Friday. Mr. Inspector looked around and identified a couple of issues that he said needed to be addressed.
Actually, if the inspector didn’t just happen to stop by, we may have gotten too far and then had to tear certain work down so that the proper inspection could be made! So, really, we were very fortunate that he happened to stop by when he did!

We are putting up a farm gate at each of the two entry points to the land. Over dinner, there was a conversation about how the energy or vibration on the land may be changing with the presence of the new building and gates, along with the ceremonies and intentions we are holding.
A gate might be viewed as a boundary, and it is the case that we are interested in making sure people who might damage or disrespect the land cannot enter the space. On another level, passing through a gate might be experienced as a threshold, or a decisive point of entry into a new reality. What if every person who passes through these gates experiences it as an opportunity to raise their consciousness and enter into the Fifth World? We’ll have to think about how we can use these gates as an opportunity to focus on that awareness which would help everyone who arrives to step into the Fifth World.

We had some interesting animal sightings. Elisa saw a bear on Country Road 155 in the middle of the day. We also saw a lone coyote running effortlessly along the Chama River.
We stopped on the road to take a picture of this horse. And near the intersection of 554 and 84 in a field along the river, we saw a large herd of majestic elk. So beautiful.
It’s been overcast and rainy. I remember learning about the different types of clouds in school: cumulus, cirrus, stratus. But I think that every cloud is amazingly unique. The shapes, the shades of color, how the sun pokes through or doesn’t. From atop the mesa you can see sheets of long gray clouds in those distinct areas where it is raining. The clouds and the rain have a way of softening everything about this high desert landscape. It allows your body to relax for a moment.
The sun cooks, dries and hardens everything it touches. The rain softens, congeals and dissolves separateness. In this northern New Mexico landscape, this balance of sun and water is exactly what allows us to build a house of mud.
